BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team opened its indoor season Friday, Dec. 8, as the Eagles competed at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. Although only some of the distance runners participated, the meet served as a solid opportunity for those involved to compete against strong talent from respectable programs.
As the Green and White only competed in the 5000m, redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) ended the night with the highest place of any Eagle, finishing seventh in 14:11.10. Fellow redshirt senior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) placed 10th as the second Eagle to cross the finish line, marking a time of 14:30.65. Finishing just behind Bouchikhi in 11th place was redshirt senior Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis.-River Falls) crossing in 14:32.86. Rounding out the Eagles in the 5000m was senior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary-Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium), who placed 13th in 14:59.96.
Eastern picks things back up in the next calendar year when they head down Washtenaw Avenue to take part in the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, Jan. 13.
