UDM - McCann Leads Men at Horizon League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. (10/28/17) -- James McCann led the way as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team competed at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday.
The 8k race was held at Katke Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Michigan, on the campus of Metro Series rival Oakland University.
As a team, Detroit Mercy - a young squad with six of its seven runners underclassmen - finished seventh with a point total of 176 as four runners claimed spots in the top 40.
"The men gave a solid effort today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country '89 Guy Murray. "Our young group raced well and the sophomores improved their places from last year, wihch is a positive sign for the future."
McCann was among the leaders all race and just fell out of earning All-Horizon League second-team honors by placing 20th with a time of 26:33.
Following behind McCann were Adam Fraeyman and Thomas Mueller, with times of 26:59 and 27:13, respectively.
Also placing in the top 40 was Scott Smith clocking a 27:20 for 39th. Senior Greg Ingle was close behind Smith finishing 48th with a time of 27:37. Overall, the difference from the Titans second finisher in Fraeyman to Ingle was only 38 seconds.
