GVSU - Lakers Take Home GLIAC Championships

The Grand Valley State cross country teams traveled to Northern Michigan University to compete in the GLIAC Championships on Satruday and were able to claim victories in both the men's and women's races for the 16th straight year. The women claimed their 17th consecutive championship, while the men took home their 16th consecutive championship.



Both teams dominated the championship race as the women's team scored 17 points, which was 45 points better than Northern Michigan, who came in second place with 62 points. The men's team scored 20 points, which was 56 points better than Saginaw Valley State, who finished second with 76 points.



The Laker women placed all five scoring runners in the top seven and all 10 of their runners came in 21st or better.



Gina Patterson came in first place, posting a time of 21:47.3, as her teammate Stacey Metzger finished second with a time of 21:47.9. Allie Ludge took third place with a time of 21:52.6, Madison Goen finished fourth with a time of 21:53.9 and Kelly Haubert posted a time of 22:05.8 for seventh place.



Megan Caltagirone and Rachel Bendewald placed eighth and ninth, with times of 22:10.3 and 22:17.3. Also running for the Lakers were Hanna Groeber (11th; 22:29.8), Jessica Gockley (20th; 23:12.1) and Jenna Klynstra (21st; 23:18.6), respectfully.



The men took seven of the top-10 places in the race and all five of their scoring runners finished in the top-six.



Wuoi Mach finished second overall with a time of 24:40.4, with teammates Enael Woldemichael and Zach Panning placing third and fourth with times of 24:51.9 and 24:52.5. Abe Visser finished fifth with a time of 25:08.2, while Brady Selner rounded out the scoring for GVSU with a sixth place finish and a time of 25:13.0.



Josh Steible and Trevor Sharnas claimed top-10 finishes, as Steible crossed the finish line at 25:16.4 for seventh place and Sharnas came in eighth place after posting a time of 25:19.3.



Also running for the Lakers were Jacob Domagalski (11th; 25:54.0), Sam Butler (14th; 26:06.6) and Mason VanDyke (33rd; 26:52.7), respectfully



Grand Valley State's next competition will be at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships in Cedarville, Ohio on November 4th.
