Cornerstone U - Smith leads Women’s XC at Knight Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kelli Smith had a record-setting day to lead the women's cross country team at the Knight Invitational on Saturday at Gainey Athletic Complex. The Golden Eagles posted a sixth place finish in the big field and they will return to action in two weeks in Illinois at Augustana.
Sophomore Kelli Smith led the Golden Eagles with her seventh place finish at the Calvin College Knight Invite on Saturday morning. Smith slashed 46 seconds off her personal best set one week earlier. Her time of 18:16 on the 5,000m course, moves her to third on the CU all-time list and helped CU to a sixth place team finish.
Junior Valerie Richter also ran a PR for the second week in a row, cracking 19 minutes for the first time taking 24th in 18:55. Freshman Sierra Albus followed close behind, 31st in 19:07. Senior Ally Rabe finished 51st in 19:40 and sophomore Rachel Gohn lowered her season best to 20:29 in 100th place.
Grand Valley State bested the 23-team field with 63 points and five of the next six teams provided a preview for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Aquinas took the runner-up spot with 68, followed by Madonna with 90, Siena Heights fifth with 122 and Cornerstone sixth with 184.
