Cornerstone U - WHAC has strong showing at Knight Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference flexed its muscles at the Knight Invite on Saturday morning and the Golden Eagles found themselves right in the thick of it as they placed fifth in a big field just two points behind upstart Madonna. CU will return to action in two weeks at Augustana.
The Calvin College Knight Invite turned into a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season preview with five WHAC teams placing fourth through eighth in the field off 22 teams.
The Golden Eagles entered the 8,000 meter race ranked fifth in the NAIA preseason poll and found themselves two points behind conference rivals Madonna at the finish, 126 to 128.
Sophomore Colin De Young led CU, taking seventh in 25:23. The next three from the CU squad were just fifteen seconds apart at the line, led by junior, Joey DeBoer (27th / 26:04), sophomore, Doug Hollett (35th / 26:10) and senior, Zach Feldpausch (37 / 26:19). Senior Nate Silvey earned ran new best time of 26:54 as CU's fifth man.
The hosts from Calvin took the team title with 32 points, followed by Grand Valley Sate with 109. Ohio Northern was third and the next five were all WHAC teams. After Madonna and Cornerstone, Indiana Tech placed sixth with 147, then Aquinas seventh with 163 and Siena Heights eighth at 189.
