GVSU - Lakers Post Strong Outing at Knight Invitational

The Grand Valley State cross country program completed its first race of the season at the Calvin College Knight Invitational, Saturday morning in Grand Rapids, Mich. The top ranked women's program in the USTFCCCA poll finished first with 63 points, while the #2-ranked men's team placed second with 109 points. The Lakers next race is Friday (Sept. 15) at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
"We had some very solid performances from our student-athletes today," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "There are some things that can be build upon moving forward and we are excited to have the full team compete next week at Michigan State."
The Lakers had three runners finish in the top 10, sophomore Theresa Mueller finished 3rd (18:04.5). Freshman Megan Caltagirone came in 4th (18:05.1), followed by senior Jenna Klynstra finishing in 10th (18:21.0). In addition, freshman Malea Teerman placed 12th (18:29.0) and junior Jordan Stoer finished 34th (19:17.4).
Also competing for GVSU, juniors Vanessa Sanchez finished the race at (20:50.9) and Sabrina Williams crossed the finish line at 21:00.1.
GVSU had three runners finish in the top 25, sophomore Joe Renner finished 12th (25:42.4). Freshmen Mitchell Towne placed14th (25:49.8) and Tim Osborne finished 18th (25:57.4). In addition, sophomore Jacob Domagalski came in at 29th (26:18.2) and freshman Collin Herrman placed 36th (26:40.4)
Also competing for the Lakers, freshmen Matt McLaughlin came in at 26:42.2, Connor Schwartz finished 26:43.3 and Bryan Flannery with a time of 29:20.5.
