EMU Men's Cross Country Places Third in Titan Invite

NORTHVILLE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team finished third at the Detroit Titan Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9, in Northville, Mich. The Green and White used the event as another opportunity for the underclassmen to gain collegiate experience, as all eight harriers were freshmen.
"I liked what I saw today with our freshman lineup and look forward to helping them develop," said Head Coach John Goodridge.
Zachary Young (Marion, Ill.-Marion) paced the Eagles, officially placing seventh with a time of 21:41.0. Phoenix Myers (Wattsburg, Pa.-Seneca), Johnelle Joe (Mount Pleasant, Mich.-Mount Pleasant), Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln), and Ian Cook (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) also put together solid performances, as each ranked within the official top-25. Meyers came in at 13th with a time of 22:02.2, while Joe and Costa finished 21st and 22nd with times of 22:24.4 and 22:25.0, respectively. Cook rounded out the EMU harriers inside the top-25, finishing at 24th in 22:35.1.
Hayelom Fitsum (Denver, Colo.-Denver School of Science and Technology) saw his first competition as an Eagle, finishing 33rd in 23:06.8.
The Eagles will return to action Friday, Sept. 15 at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Last year EMU placed second in the event with a team score of 42 points.
