Calvin Women's Track and Field Athletes Shine at Hillsdale Gina Relays and Calvin Tune-Up Invitational

A group of Calvin's distance runners competed at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Thursday and Friday night while Calvin's throwers competed at the Calvin Tune-Up Invitational Friday evening.



At the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Thursday, junior Autumn Vonk (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was ninth in the open 3,000 meter steeplechase in a season-best time of 11:59.60. In the women's open 5,000 meter run, sophomore Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) was eighth in a season-best time of 17:24.76.



On Friday, junior Marissa McGahan (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) took 21st in the championship steeplechase competition with a season-best time of 11:27.38. In the women's championship 5,000 meter run, senior Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, Mn./St. Croix Preparatory HS) was 23rd in a time of 17:33.68.



At the Calvin Tune-Up Invitational Friday night, freshman Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) won the javelin throw with a career-best throw of 125-9. Freshman Annika Staal (Woodinville, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was fifth with a throw of 98-0.
