PHILADELPHIA, Pa. & HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Following an intense previous two days of competition, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded both the Penn Relays and the Gina Relays today, April 29. The Eagles took part in one relay in Philadelphia, while a total of four competitors wrapped up in Hillsdale.

"It was a solid weekend for us," said Head Coach Sue Parks. "We had a number of personal bests and all event areas showed improvement in some way. I feel that we are right where we need to be going into the final stretch before the MAC meet. We train to be at our best during the championship part of the season, and I'm excited to prepare for a strong showing at Western Michigan."

Out in Philadelphia, the lone EMU event on the day was the 4x400m relay. After advancing from Thursday, the team of senior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. – Irvington), junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area), senior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson), and freshman Micah Johnston finished sixth, crossing the finish line in 3:41.75.

Back in Hillsdale at the Gina Relays, redshirt sophomore Emiesha Burrell (Ecorse, Mich. – Anderson) kicked things off in the 400m dash championship heat. There, the Ecorse, Mich. native clocked in at 1:00.32 to secure a seventh-place finish. Over in the discus throw open, senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) posted a career-best mark of 43.76 meters/ 143 feet 7-inches. That throw improved her hold on the No. 2 spot in the EMU record books, as she now sits just less than a foot out of the top spot.

Eastern also had a pair of throwers take part in the javelin. Freshman Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill. – Joliet West) took home the bronze, posting a career-best mark of 36.99 meters/ 121 feet 4-inches. Additionally, fellow freshman Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill. – Montini Catholic) competed as well, nabbing ninth with a throw of 30.28 meters/ 99 feet 4-inches.

The Eagles wrap up the regular portion of the outdoor season next week, making a short jaunt south down to Toledo, Ohio for the Toledo Invitational, Mat 4-5.
