Aquinas - Bell Breaks Record at George Glass Invitational

Curtis Bell (JR/Coleman, Michigan)'s school record performance in the pole vault highlighted the day for the Saints at the George Glass Invitational in Upland, Indiana. The meet was contested on the campus of Taylor University and featured a variety of DII, DIII, and NAIA institutions.
Bell's jump of 16-7.25 won the event and established a new record and currently ranks him first in the NAIA. The Saints also received a big throw from Clay Weidenhamer (SR/Sparta, Michigan) in the shot put. Weidenhamer tied a personal best of 50-11 to hit the "B" standard and remains at #2 on the Saints All-Time List. Nate McKeown (FR/Hesperia, Michigan) would win the high jump with a leap of 6-7.75 to rank him fifth on the All-Time List. On the track, Aquinas received the fourth fastest 200 meter performance in school history. Sam Freeman (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) crossed the line in 22.11 to take fifth in the meet and to land himself on the top five board.
Other top five finishes were recorded by: Arik LaFave (FR/Hesperia, Michigan) (2nd - 800M - 1:55.72), Luke Simonds (SO/Grand Rapids, Michigan) (4th - 1500M - 4:05.95), Michael Gorman (SO/Harbor Springs, Michigan) (3rd - 3000M SC - 10:09.94), Joe Conley (FR/Saranac, Michigan) (5th - HJ - 6-2.75), Marvin Doser (SO/Germany) (4th - LJ - 22-0.75), McKeown (5th - TJ - 40-9.5), John Piatek (SO/Traverse City, Michigan) (4th - Discus - 145-6), Aaron Whaley (SO/Honor, Michigan) (3rd - Javelin - 152-6). The men's 4x100 meter relay placed second in 42.88, while the men's 4x400 meter relays placed second, fourth, and fifth (3:23.29, 3:26.07, and 3:26.28) respectively.
The Saints will return to action next weekend at the Benedictine Relays.
