EMU Men - Eagles Win 4x1500m Relay in Final Day at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up the Raleigh Relays today, March 25. The highlight of the day came in the 4x1500m relay, as the Eagles took home the top spot in a competitive race.



"Very nice to start the outdoor season with excellent weather, which helped us off to a solid start to build on," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge.



One Eagle ran in the 200m dash, as junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) finished ninth, posting a time of 21.91 seconds. After finishing 14th in the 110m hurdles yesterday, freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) returned to the track today, taking part in the 400m hurdles. Findlay clocked in at 55.01 seconds, putting him in 16th. Sophomore Elijah Barber (Columbus, Ohio – Eastmoor Academy) had a solid race as well, finishing 29th in 56.32 seconds.



In the 4x100m relay, the Green and White finished in fourth, coming just over .40 seconds away from second. Specifically, freshman Sean Beckom (Saginaw, Mich. – Heritage), Antonio, Bolden, and Underwood teamed up to cross the finish line in 40.79 seconds. Eastern also finished in the top-five of the 4x400m relay, with the team of Barber, redshirt senior Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich. – Farmington), freshman Trevor Marcus (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome), and sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) taking fifth in 3:16.78.



The 4x800m relay saw the Eagles finish eighth, as the group of junior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich. – Thomas J. Anderson), freshmen Dan Kuhn (Erie, Pa. – Harbor Creek) and Roderic Wilson (Atlanta, Ga. – Blanche Ely), and junior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) clocked in at 7:45.36.



The Eagles claimed gold in the 4x1500m relay, as redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) and redshirt juniors Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven), Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge), and Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) teamed up for the victory. The Green and White clocked in at 15:37.52, putting them atop the podium by nearly three seconds.



In the triple jump, sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) represented the Green and White. Peters was able to bring home a 10th-place finish, posting a jump of 14.38 meters/ 47 feet 2.25-inches.



The hammer throw saw redshirt senior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky) make his season debut. Jones was able to secure eighth-place out of nearly 30 throwers, posting a mark of 58.07 meters/ 190 feet 6-inches. Sophomore Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. – Parkland) picked up where he left off last season, turning in a third-place finish in the javelin throw. Ziegenfuss notched a mark of 64.65 meters/ 212 feet 1-inch to claim bronze.



The Eagles continue the outdoor season next week, making the long trip west to California for the Stanford Invitational, March 31-April 1.
