SHU - Men's Track & Field Claims Second at WHAC Indoor Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Siena Heights men's track and field team placed second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, on Saturday. The Saints scored 100 points, losing to foe Indiana Tech who finished with a team score of 237.
The 4x800 relay team consisting of Anthony Vermilye, Kyler VanWormer, Dominic Muessig and Brent Rodden placed first with a 7:39.79 time. This is a new WHAC record, previously held by Aquinas. This performance earned the Most Valuable Performance award for earning th top-time in the NAIA in the 4x800m relay.
In the 800 meter run, Rodden placed first with a time of 1:57.00, while teammate Muessig took second with a time of 1:57.49.
The men's 4x400 team consisting of Blaine Ellington, Joshua Miles, Torin Anderson and Muessig placed second with a time of 3:22.
In the 600 meter run, Miles placed third with a time of 1:24.86.
Joshua Jenkins hurdled his way to a provisional-qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles. His time was 8.33 and good for fourth place.
Senior Anthony Vermilye paced the men's one mile with a first place finish of 4:27.73.
Stephen Merchant placed third for the Saints in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:37.62. Teammates Jareb Duggan and Esrom Woldemichael placed 5th and 6th respectfully.
Juwan Willis hit the provisional-qualifying mark him the men's high jump. His leap of 2.01 met the mark needed.
In the weight throw Jacob Compagner threw 17.97m. This was good for second place and an automatic-qualifying spot to nationals. Fellow thrower Robert Drew also hit the automatic-qualifying mark with a distance of 17.15m and a fifth place finish.
The qualifying Saints will compete in the NAIA National Championship in Johnson City, Tenn. on Thursday, March 2, through Saturday, March 4.
