YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/25/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team wrapped up competition on day one of the Horizon League Indoor Championships in sixth place with 16 points from Watson and Tressel Training Site on the campus of Youngstown State.

HIGHLIGHTS

Seven PRs were set on Saturday afternoon: Bayles in the weight throw, Holmes in the 200m, Dent in the 400m (indoor PR) and four by Jackson - in the overall pentathlon, as well as in the shot put, long jump and 800m.

The Titans received points from Bayles (weight throw), Sutton (5000m), Kyri Jackson (pentathlon) and Sydnie Fetherolf, Natalie Vizard, Elizabeth Mullen and Taylor Smith (DMR).

Senior Ashley Bayles hit a PR of 16.16m (53'0.25") on her sixth and final toss of the weight throw, moving her from seventh to third in the standings to earn six points. The mark is the seventh-best all-time in Titan history.

Senior Devon Sutton battled for a seventh-place finish in the 5,000m to earn two points for Detroit Mercy.

Freshman Kyri Jackson took sixth in the pentathlon with a PR of 2,944.

The DMR team finished fourth with a time of 12:28.19, the sixth-fastest in the Titan record book.

STANDINGS

The host Penguins lead the way after day one with 54 points. Oakland is seven points back in second, followed closely by Milwaukee with 45 points. Wright State is fourth with 28 points, followed by Northern Kentucky with 27 and the Titans with 16. UIC has 13 points and Cleveland State is in eighth with four points.

COACH MURRAY SAYS

"It was kind of a tough day for us as we missed a couple of opportunities. We had some bright spots as we fought until the end – Ashley Bayles had her best throw in round six and Devon Sutton battled to score in the 5,000m when she wasn't feeling 100%. We just need to keep battling tomorrow and make our luck."
