ALLENDALE, Mich. — Central Michigan track and field cleared the last hurdle before the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships with a good showing at the Grand Valley State Tune-Up on Friday afternoon.
Thirty-one CMU athletes were entered in various events, with the large majority of the team resting its legs before next weekend’s marquee event.
Three Chippewa men – Kevin Weiler (shot put), Dylan Banagis (weight throw), and Lorenzo Wells (200-meter dash) -- finished first in their respective events.
Wells’ time of 22.29 seconds in the 200 was his best of the season.
CMU second-place finishes on the men’s side went to Jake Peister (triple jump), Ali Taha (long jump), and Sam Wagner (pole vault). On the women’s side, Kyra Harrison (triple jump), and Calli Stemple (high jump) also placed second.
Harrison’s triple jump of 11.28 meters is a lifetime best.
The Mid-American Conference Championships are scheduled for March 24-25 at Eastern Michigan’s Bowen Field House.
