Thanksgiving time in Michigan and 2016 brings more Turkey Trot races than ever before
As high school and college cross country and marathon seasons start to wind down, the minds of most runners in Michigan turn to Thanksgiving and finding a fun and festive -- or fast and festive -- Turkey Trot race. It seems that each year there are more and more races and running events out there all across the state, both big and small to give everyone a great way to celebrate the holiday on foot.
For thousands in the Detroit area, the go-to race on Thanksgiving morning has been in Detroit, where the Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot will be celebrating its 34th anniversary.
Detroit's Turkey Trot has become one of the largest 10K events in the country so be prepared for a large crowd and be sure to plan ahead. Both the parade and Detroit Lions football game follow the turkey trot in Detroit, all in the same general area of downtown.
However, despite the large number of humans converging on Detroit for this event, the Turkey Trot in Detroit is still a really fun event and attracts some of Southeastern Michigan's fastest runners.
For those not in the Detroit area and not into running with the masses, there are so many great smaller events all across Michigan from which to choose. The number of Turkey Trot races both before and on Thanksgiving Day has been increasing every year with events in Adrian to Dowagiac and Bad Axe to Traverse City and all points between.
