ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Golden Eagles raced to seventh at the 35th Annual Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College. Morning thundershowers softened the Saukie Golf Course and the afternoon sun and humidity made racing six kilometers more of a challenge. In spite of the conditions, the Cornerstone women placed in the top seven for the third time in three years.
Senior, Cathy Coryell had her highest finish at the event, placing 20th in 23:26. Behind her, sophomore, Valerie Richter lowered her personal best by 42 seconds to finish 31st. Junior, Ally Rabe chopped 33 seconds of her PR, taking 44th.
Two freshmen rounded out the top five. Katya Bohatch placed 56th in 24:16 while classmate, Rachel Gohn was 80th in 24:56.
CU entered the meet with the goal of finishing close to St. Francis of Illinois and Olivet Nazarene. The two schools ranked 19th and 22nd in the latest NAIA poll. ONU upset the Saints taking third with 150 points to St. Francis' 190 points in fifth. Cornerstone's 227 points for seventh put them just 57 seconds behind SFU in team time.
With 24 teams competing, the University of Chicago took the team title with 39 points
