YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - For the 10th time in the previous 12 seasons, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team was selected as the top team in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, announced today, Aug. 30, by the league office.
The Eagles, who won their sixth consecutive MAC Championship last season, were selected to repeat as conference champions with a total of seven votes, while Miami was tabbed to finish second. Rounding out the top three was Akron in third, with Buffalo and Central Michigan in fourth and fifth, respectively.
From there, Ohio was chosen to take sixth, with the Falcons of Bowling Green selected seventh. Rounding out the poll was Kent State in eighth, and Toledo in ninth.
Coming off a third place finish at last year's NCAA Great Lakes Regional, the Eagles enter this year ranked fifth according to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This marks the second straight year in which the Green and White held fifth in the preseason ranking. Wisconsin leads the way in first, while Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State round out the top four.
The Green and White were one of two MAC schools tabbed to finish in the top 10, as Akron was selected eighth. Also making their way into the top 15 was Miami in the 12th spot, and Ohio in the 15th spot.
