KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's cross country team was picked to finish sixth in the 2016 Mid-American Conference (MAC) preseason coaches' poll, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Eastern Michigan was picked to repeat as champions, followed by Bowling Green, Toledo, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and WMU, who finished fourth at the 2015 MAC Championships at Akron. Rounding out the rest of the poll is Buffalo, Miami, Ohio, Akron, Kent State and Ball State.
Junior Maria McDaniel finished third at last season's championships to earn First Team All-MAC honors for the second straight season. Her second place finish in 2014 and third place finish in 2015 are the two highest finishes in WMU history since Stacey Kilburn won the meet in 1993.
Rounding out WMU's top-five last season are all returning letterwinners this season, as sophomore Sarah Anderson finished 20th, senior Claire Gilbert 26th, junior Hanne Christensen 29th and senior Daya Wagh 41st.
The Broncos open the season on Friday, Sept. 2 with the George Dales Invitational at Pine View Golf Club in Three Rivers, Mich. Follow the team on Twitter @WMU_TFXC!
