MSU - USATF Olympic Trials Update: Five Spartans Make Finals

EAST LANSING, Michigan - Five Spartans qualified for finals over the weekend at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Sophomore Katelyn Daniels concluded the discus competition in 10th on Saturday, July 2.
Daniels opened MSU’s week with a top-eight throw in the discus in the qualifying round on Friday, July 1. After a second-round foul, she recorded a mark of 56.94m to make Saturday’s final. Daniels long of the day came once again on her third and final attempt, sailing 56.38m.
Three of MSU’s four alumni racing in the women’s steeplechase on Monday, July 4, crossed the line in the top 14 to earn a spot in Thursday’s final. Leah O’Connor paced the group with a 9:37.55 to win her heat. Recent graduate Katie Landwehr finished in fifth in heat three, while Nicole Bush was fourth in heat one. Landwehr and Bush clocked a 9:46.16 and 9:46.29, respectively, to make the final by time.
Former Big Ten champion Tori Franklin will be jumping in Thursday’s final of the triple jump after taking ninth in the qualifying round. Franklin improved on each of her three attempts, concluding the day with a leap of 13.51m.
Junior Tim Ehrhardt amassed 1,745 points through two events before pulling out from competition. He ran a 10.90 in the 100 meters and jumped 7.20m in the long jump.
