Cornerstone U - Deon Fox finishes career as All-American in Pole Vault

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Deon Fox (SR/Muskegon, Mich.) finished his outstanding 2015-16 season in a Golden Eagle uniform as the senior posted a 6th place finish in the pole vault on the final day of the 2016 Outdoor NAIA National Championships. Fox posted three All-American marks during his senior year as the meet concluded with an 18th place finish on the men's side and 66th place on the women's.


The day started before the sun came up for Cornerstone Track & Field as the marathon saw five Golden Eagle competitors start and three finish. On the women's side, Kayla Hunt (SR/Cedar Springs, Mich.) placed 16th with a time of 3:40:03.08. The mark came less than 16 hours after she finished the 5,000m Race Walk in 8th on Friday.


On the men's side, senior Tyler Steigenga (SR/Holland, Mich.) was the top finisher as he placed 28th with a time of 3:01:07.3 and he was closely followed by Philip Merrell (SO/Cadillac, Mich.) with a time of 3:05:13.6. Thomas Bambach (SR/Allendale, Mich.) and Trevor Curtis (SO/Belding, Mich.) each dropped out earlier in the race.


Later in the day at the track, Joey DeBoer (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished his outstanding freshman campaign with a 10th place showing in the 3,000m steeplechase.


The day was finished by Deon Fox who captured his third All-American plaque of his 2015-16 season. Fox posted a 6th place mark in the pole vault with a best leap of 4.80m (15'9).


Final team standings had the men in 18th with 17 points and the women in 66th with one point while Concordia (Neb.) won the women's side and Indiana the men's.
