CMU - 12 Chippewas Headed To East Regional

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - A dozen Central Michigan student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA East Regional Track & Field meet in Jacksonville, Fla.
The meet runs from Thursday-Saturday, May 26-28, at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. The top eight in each event advance to the NCAA Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
Student-athletes received invitations to the East Regional by meeting a pre-determined qualifying time, height or distance.
The Chippewa contingent takes on a throwers-heavy look with Devene Brown and Cole Walderzak, both seniors, topping the list.
Brown, who was a Second Team All-American last year in the women's discus, has qualified in the women's shot put. Walderzak, who just missed out on earning All-America honors a year ago when he was 19th in the hammer throw, will compete in the regional in both the hammer throw and the discus.
Dylan Banagis, a junior, will also compete in the men's hammer and discus, while CMU sophomore Kevin Weiler will compete in the shot put. Kylee Dobbelaere and Kyleigh Young will join Brown as part of the CMU's women's contingent.
Dobbelaere will partake in the hammer throw, Young in the javelin.
Two other Central Michigan field athletes, Jake Peister and Sam Wagner, have also qualified for the regional. Peister will partake in the triple jump, Wagner in the pole vault.
The Chippewas' Ziemowit Dutkiewicz (men's 400-meter hurdles), Shane Moffo (men's 110 hurdles), Kelly Schubert (women's 10,000 meters) and Alysaa Dyer (women's 3,000 steeplechase) will also partake regional.
