ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior co-captain Cindy Ofili of the No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team was honored as the Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday (April 6).
Ofili tripled in her outdoor season debut and won all three races, taking event titles in the 100-meter dash (11.66), 200-meter dash (23.46) and 100-meter hurdles (13.12) all within a two-hour stretch on Saturday (April 2).
The reigning indoor national champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Ofili's season debut for the outdoor campaign was an impactful one. Her 15 points led all scorers at the meet, and her efforts helped U-M total 83 points to beat North Carolina and Duke in the Battle of the Blues meet in Durham, North Carolina.
Fans who were unable to watch last weekend's ESPN3 broadcast can still catch a replay of the meet on their own time, using their cable provider login with WatchESPN.
This week's award marks Ofili's 10th career conference award and her third in 2016. She earned the recognition on Jan. 27 and Feb. 10, 2016, of the indoor season. Of her 10 Big Ten honors, five have come in the indoor season and five have come during the outdoor season. So far in 2016, she is the third Wolverine to win the award (Jamie Morrissey; Dec. 9, 2015 and Erin Finn; Jan. 13, 2016).
