PITTSBURGH, Kan. – Lake Superior State senior Justin Dieck has another All-America honor to add to his resume.
Dieck continued his string of personal records in the shot put with a school-record throw of 18.15 meters (59-6 ¾) Saturday, which was good for a runner-up finish at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
"Justin had a great outing today," LSSU track and field coach Jason Davis said. "To defend last year's NCAA title with a runner-up finish and a school record is a huge deal. Garrett is a great thrower and deserved to win, but Justin represents LSSU well. He's a great competitor.
"I can't think of a better way to cap off a four year indoor track career. He truly makes coaching at LSSU a pleasure."
He won the event last year with a distance of 17.58 meters and was seeded fifth this year at 19.97 meters. He once again peaked at the national championships and passed most of the field.
Dieck opened the meet with a 17.22-meter throw and hit his school-record mark on his second attempt. He threw 17.29 meters on his third attempt.
During the finals, Dieck fouled, followed by throws of 17.12 and 17.58 meters. None of the top three finishers improved their standing during the finals.
