ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team opened early-season competition in outdoor events at the University of South Alabama's Jaguar Opener, with junior co-captain Aaron Howell making her return to action on Saturday (March 5) at Jaguar Track. The Farmington Hills, Michigan, native made her return to action following an injury sustained during the 2015 Big Ten Indoor Championships pentathlon competition. She competed in the high jump, finishing runner-up after clearing the bar at 1.64 meters (5-4.75 ft.) and also ran on the track.

Howell joined junior Sami Michell and freshman Lauren Rodriguez competing in the 100-meter hurdles, with Michell (runner-up) and Howell (third place) earning top finishes for the Maize and Blue. Michell ran 14.39, just three hundredths of a second off the first-place finisher, and Howell timed 14.57.

Rodriguez, who ran 15.21 in the second heat for fifth overall, also ran with Michell and senior Emily Wee in the 400-meter hurdles, with Michell and Wee going one-two across the line. For Wee, her time of 1:02.53 was a personal best in her first outdoor action in two seasons, having missed the 2015 outdoor season due to injury. Michell's winning time was 1:02.02, rounding off a first-place and third-place weekend for the Reed City, Michigan, native.

Freshman Jeryne Fish ran 12.93 in the 100m dash and also finished fourth in the long jump with her mark of 5.39 meters (17-8.25 ft.).

In the discus, McCarthy debuted at 41.50 meters (136-2 ft.), behind sophomore Bailey Baker at 41.55 meters (136-4 ft.) for a four-five Wolverine finish.
