Muskegon CC Adding FULL Men's and Women's Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field Teams in 16-17
Provided by MCC
Senior track & field athletes have a great NEW option for college -- competing at the junior college level at Muskegon Community College. Unlike some junior colleges, MCC will offer and support FULL men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field teams. "By FULL team, I mean we are recruiting sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, throwers, and distance runners," said Coach Dan Fishel. Fishel (a former Grand Valley State University runner who has been the head cross country coach at MCC the past 4 years, leading the MCC men and women to top-25 finishes at the NJCAA national cross coun try meet) will be the head coach for the track & field teams. He will be assisted by Derrick Cook (former Muskegon Oakridge and UCLA hurdler) and Ashley Glover (former Grand Rapids Northview and Calvin College thrower). “In our first year, we will have no cuts so all hard-working, dedicated track & field athletes can join our college teams,†said Fishel. “We WILL also offer athletic scholarships as well to those track & field athletes that have potential to develop into NJCAA national meet scorers for the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks. As we have started to do already with cross country, we want to encourage our athletes to get their Associates Degrees and transfer to compete at 4-year schools. Although there is no minimum ACT score required to compete at MCC (just for athletes to graduate high school), we want to recruit student-athletes that will work hard in the classroom as well to get their college degrees.†If interested athletes and/or coaches need more information, please contact Coach Dan Fishel at 231-740-1071 and leave a message or e-mail him at [email protected] Go Jayhawks!
