Davenport - Panthers Earn a Pair of Second Place Finishes at GVSU Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The DU track and field team competed in the GVSU Open Friday evening. The Panthers saw both the men and the women take second place behind host Grand Valley State.
Michael Catching, Jr. led the men as he took second place in both the 60m (7.12s) dash and the 200m dash (22.53). Carson Nieuwenhuis recorded a fourth place finish in the 600m run on a time of 1:25.04. The field events for the men saw Dan Boivin earn fourth place in the pole vault as he set a new school record with a 4.45m effort. Drake Boomer saw a third place finish (6.37m) in the long jump and the triple jump (12.50m).
The women were led by Emily Michalski as she set a new DU school record in the triple jump with a 9.91m effort and a fourth place result. Tessa Gryzen took second place in the high jump (1.60m) while Kyla Mann led the sprints with a third place finish in the 60m dash on a time of 8.15s.
The Panthers saw an all-around great day as they totaled 14 top-five DU all-time performances. The Panthers will compete again on January 30 when they travel to Saginaw Valley State for the Jets Pizza Invitational.
