Northern Michigan's Williams, Juergen Win at Doug Hansen Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Northern Michigan's Jasmine Williams and Michelle Juergen scored victories at the Doug Hansen Open, hosted by Saginaw Valley State at the SVSU Fieldhouse Friday.
"We had some good performances today at a very competitive meet," head coach Jenny Ryan said. "Overall, it was a good day for the entire team for a meet at the beginning of the indoor season."
Williams picked up her second win in the weight throw, improving on the provisional mark she set at The Opener in December with a distance of 58-1. Juergen captured the high jump crown by posting a height of 5-4.25.
Eight other Wildcats finished in the top five in their respective events.
In the 60-meter dash, Yasmin Jelassi (7.91) and Avadon James (7.92) finished back-to-back, at second and third respectively. Jasmine King took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.54.
In the 400-meter run, Paige Dutcher (59.46) and Shayla Huebner (1:00.94) placed fourth and fifth respectively. Kameron Burmeister crossed the line in 10:21.03 to claim fourth in the 3,000-meter run.
Samanthia Johnson joined Williams in the weight throw top five, placing fourth with a mark of 50-9. Ine Mylle secured a top-five finish in the triple jump, posting a distance of 36-10.25 to take third.
The Northern Michigan 4x400 relay team of Danielle Brzezinski, Dutcher, Clara Churchill and Huebner timed in at 4:05.33 to finish fifth.
The Wildcats return to action next Saturday when they host the Northern Challenge, their lone home meet of the season, in the Superior Dome. Northern Michigan will honor its senior class at the meet, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
