ROCHESTER, Mich. – Six Central Michigan runners recorded top-10 finishes Friday as the Chippewa cross country squads competed in a short-course dual with Oakland on the Grizzlies’ cross country course.
CMU’s Samantha Allmacher placed fourth, Megan O’Neil was fifth, and Alyssa Dyer placed 10th in the women’s 3K race. For the Chippewas in the men’s 5K event, Luke Anderson was fifth, Casey Voisin was seventh, and Mark Beckman placed 10th.
Oakland won both the men’s and women’s team events. The Grizzly men finished with 16 points to CMU’s 43, while the women’s team total was 21-39.
Rachel Levy, running unattached, won the women’s race in 10 minutes, 28 seconds. Allmacher finished in 10:35, O’Neil came in at 10:36, and Dyer finished in 10:52.
Also for the Chippewa women, Hannah Davis (11:07) was 12th, while Katie Kasper (11:14), Michaela Bundy (11:15), Katie Weiler (11:16) and Jamie Madrigal (11:17) placed 14th-17th, respectively.
Andy Bowman of Oakland won the men’s race in 12:09. Anderson finished in 12:24, Voisin in 12:29 and Beckman in 12:36.
Also for the CMU men, Monte Scott (12:48) was 12th, ALEC Omell (13:00) was 16th, Ben Yagiela (13:07) was 17th, and Alec Esparza (13:29) was 20th.
“We didn’t run all of our big horses, but for the young kids we got some really good experience,” CMU coach Matt Kaczor said. “We went in with a certain idea of how we wanted to attack it. We wanted to do a lot of building throughout the race and have them feeling confident as they crossed.
“They could have had little better finishing times, but we wanted to work on our kicks so that when we’re at the MAC meet and things like that, we can hold people off.”
