EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The 11th-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team competed at Michigan State University's Spartan Invitational on Friday (Sept. 18), with six athletes in uniform for the in-state battle at Forest Akers Golf Course. The 8,000-meter race featured nearly 400 athletes, and all six Wolverines placed among the field's top 81 finishers, including a trio in the top 50.



Senior/junior Nick Renberg led the charge for U-M, clocking 25:27 for 11th place and missing a top-10 finish by just three seconds.



Making their Wolverine debuts, the Martin brothers crossed next for the Maize and Blue. Sophomore/freshman Ethan Martin was first across the line, taking 43rd overall with a time of 26:11, while his brother Colin Martin earned 50th place with a time of 26:19.



Not long after at 26:51, senior Alex Moran crossed, taking 53rd place. Junior/sophomore Austin Benoit was next at 26:39, earning 65th overall, and fifth-year senior Scotty Albaugh was the sixth Wolverine across the finish line at 26:52.



U-M also boasted six unattached athletes in the meet, led by freshman Keenan Rebera's 32nd-place finish, which came in 25:50.



Fifth-year senior August Pappas did not compete.



After a weekend off, U-M returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, with the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville, which will also be the site of the NCAA Championships later this season (Nov. 21).
