The Charger men's track team enjoyed a terrific indoor season, but over the weekend, welcomed back a true impact sprinter to the lineup.
Senior Maurice Jones, who had used all of his indoor season eligibility before this year, has one season of outdoor competition left, and he began that final season at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, and gave fans a taste of what he's capable of.
Jones finished second overall in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.81 seconds in a field filled with Division I and club running team sprinters. He later anchored the 4x400 relay team that placed third at 3:14.23. Jones was joined in the relay by Lane White, Colby Clark and Ty Etchemendy. Jones holds outdoor school records in both of those events, and for it being his first NCAA competition in 10 months, turned in impressive times in both events.
A different relay team, the sprint medley, was fifth, checking in at 3:31.21.
Senior Joshua MIrth opened the final portion of his brilliant career with a strong race in the 10,000 meters. He finished 12th with a time of 29:38.1.
White, a freshman, made his outdoor debut in the 400 meter dash and took 16th with a time of 48.85 seconds. Fellow freshman David Chase finished tied for seventh in the high jump with teammate Nick Shuster, clearing 1.90 meters.
