Martin & Magill Repeat as Masters 5 km Cross Country Champions

CARMEL, Ind. — On a near perfect day for cross country, over 200 runners competed in the 2014 USA Masters 5 km Cross Country Championships at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind.. The event was held on Saturday, November 8.



Athletes from 23 states competed for national titles in 5 year age division with team competition being scored in 10-year divisions (40 yrs.+, 50 yrs.+, 60 yrs.+, 70 yrs. +, and 80 yrs.+). Additionally athletes were scored based on age-grading performances. The championships were hosted by USATF Indiana.



As they did last year when the championships were in New Jersey, Kathryn Martin (Northport Running Club), 63, of Northport, N.Y., and Peter Magill (Cal Coast TC), 53, of South Pasadena, Calf. turned in the top performances on the day, based on the age-graded performances scoring tables. Martin ran 21:08 to capture the women's 60-64 division title and a 94.50% age-graded performance. Magill ran 16:54 which scored 89.50%. Martin and Magill each won $400 for their top performances.



In the men's races the other top performances, based on age graded scoring, were turned in by:


Joe Sheeran, 56, (Effensburg, Wash. / Club Northwest) - aged graded score 88.82%, M55 champion ($300)


Tom McCormack, 61, (Jonesborough, Tenn. / Atlanta TC) - age graded score 88.31%, M60 champion ($200)


Ken Youngers, 58, (Tucker, Ga. / Atlanta TC) - aged graded score 87.94%, M55 2nd place ($100)


Kristian Blaich, 48, (Decatur, Ga. / Atlanta TC) - aged graded score 87.44%, M45 champion ($75)




In the women's championship races the other top performances, based on age graded scoring, were turned in by
