U of M Women - Ofili, Handler Earn NCAA Outdoor Spots on Final Day of Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- University of Michigan sophomore Cindy Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Huron) qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship field with a second-place finish in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles during the final day of action at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds Saturday (May 31) held at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium. Ofili's time of 13.00 seconds was the fourth fastest of 24 participants in the three heats. Her time was also 0.07 off her career-best mark.
Competing 30 minutes after the conclusion of the hurdles, Ofili was unable to qualify for the NCAA field in the 200-meter dash after placing 23rd in the event. Ofili registered a time of 24.27 seconds to finish seventh in her heat.
Junior Brook Handler (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) earned a spot in the 1,500-meter field at the NCAA Outdoor Championships by earning one of the two alternate slots for the fastest times after the five automatic qualifiers from each heat. Handler finished seventh in her heat with a time of 4:15.48, the seventh-fastest time of all 24 competitors.
The Wolverines will send four competitors into action at the 2014 NCAA Championships starting on Wednesday, June 11, in Eugene, Ore.
