UDM - Marchant Posts Number 2 Titan-Best in 800 Meters at Louisville

DETROIT (5/16/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had one final weekend before the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round in the East. On Friday, the Titans were at the Louisville Twilight in Louisville, Kentucky and also at the Georgia Tech Invite in Atlanta, Georgia and Shannon Marchant set a new career-best in the women's 800 meters at Louisville.
Marchant was running in the Louisville Twilight in Louisville and ran the No. 2 Titan-best mark for a new personal record in the women's 800 meter run at 2:13.26 to finish fifth. Marchant improved on her previous PR of 2:15.23 she ran at Toledo last week.
Also at Louisville, Allison Garner had the fifth-best time in the women's 100 meter preliminaries running a personal best of 12.10. She ran a 12.36 in the finals and finished fourth overall. Garner also had a mark of 27.19 in the 200 meter run and she finished ninth.
Whitney Rogers was fifth in the women's triple jump at 11.57m/37-11.50. Jasmine Greene ran 1:14.95 in the women's 400 meter hurdles.
Charles Anthony had a time of 10.98 in the men's 100 meter dash to qualify for the finals and he improved his time to 10.94 in the finals for sixth. Anthony also ran the 200 meters and his mark of 22.10 was eighth.
Eric Lewis was third in the men's hammer throw with a launching of 61.58m/202-00. Lewis, who is currently holding the 26th spot in the NCAA East Region in the hammer had marks better than the student-athletes in 19th (Sam Bombaugh - Louisville) and 28th place (Brad Vivace - Louisville). Bombaugh finished eighth and Vivace was fifth. UDM's Colin Cashner was 14th at 51.14m/167-09.
Louisa Coppola was the lone Titan competing in the Georgia Tech Invite and she had a run of 4:33.31 in the women's 1500 meters and was 16th in a field of 39.
In the men's hammer throw in the East Region, Lewis currently sits 26th and Cashner is 42nd with both scheduled to compete and represent Detroit in the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round on May 29-31 to be hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.
