Finn highlights another great weekend for state of Michigan track and field athletes

Continuing an amazing first year of college, University of Michigan freshman Erin Finn turned in another great 5000 meters performance, running 15:26.08 at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford University on Sunday, May 4.

Finn, who just one year ago was running for West Bloomfield High School, only recently broke a 29 year-old Wolverine women's 5000 track record, running 15:41.35 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 19.

This time, with the help of a top class collegiate and unattached non collegiate women's field at Stanford, Finn blew away her own school record with her 15:26.

Also in the Payton Jordan Women's 5000, former Michigan State Spartan Nicole Bush ran 15:31.

Other good performances turned in at the Payton Jordan Invitational included University of Michigan graduate Amanda Eccleston finishing 7th in 4:11.21 in the Women's 1500 Meters.

On Saturday at the Dave Rankin Invitational at Purdue University, Michigan State's Leah O'Connor won easily in the women's 1500, running 4:16.40.

Another Michigan Wolverine performed well over the weekend as sprinter Cindy Ofili won two events at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, California.

Also at the Payton Jordan Invite, our state was represented well at the Post-Collegiate/Pro level as Bobby Curtis of the Rochester Hills based Hansons-Brooks ODP team, finished in 7th overall in the Men's 10,000 with a time of 27:46.30.

In that same race, Christo Landry, who lives and trains in Ann Arbor, finished 15th in 28:20.98. Landry, who ran collegiately for William and Mary College and is sponsored by Mizuno, recently won the USATF Men's 10 Mile Run Championship.

In addition to Curtis, Hansons-Brooks ODP teammates Brendan Gregg and Jake Riley also ran well. Gregg finished with a time of 28:28.54 and Riley ran 28:32.59.
