The Charger men's track team looked at home, competing on its home track on the second day of the 48th Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays Friday afternoon.
School record-holder Maurice Jones protected his home turf by winning the 400 hurdles in 51.85 seconds. That was an event Hillsdale dominated, taking three of the top four spots overall. Not far behind Jones were teammates Matthew Raffin (third) and Elliot Murphjy (fourth).
Sprinter Zach Meyer earned a pair of high finishes, taking fifth in the open 200 (22.33) and eighth in the open 100 (11.01).
Justin Fawley got his Gina Relays started early, competing in the decathlon both Thursday and Friday. He finished third in the pack with a total of 6,387 points.
Two other field-event specialists had strong outings for the Chargers. Senior Brett Dailey took sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 155 feet, 11 inches, and sophomore Nick Shuster was ninth in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4 ¼ inches.
