NMU Track and Field Announces Team Award Winners

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team announced its individual award winners on Saturday (April 26) at the Sports Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Awards Banquet. Senior Cheyenne Stewart (Most Valuable Player), junior Christina Toogood (Newcomer of the Year), junior Olivia Howard (Most Improved) and junior Emily Allen (Scholar-Athlete) were honored.
Stewart earned All-American status in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She placed eighth in the triple jump, setting a NMU school record. Stewart won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the triple jump, setting a new league record.
Toogood joined teammate, Stewart at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She also walked away with All-American honors, in the 800-meter dash after placing in seventh.
Howard won the 3,000 meter run at the Stout Open and the Karl Schneider Invitational while also winning the 5,000 meter run at the Stout Open during indoor season.
Allen finished third in the 5,000 meter run at the Stout Open and ran on the 4X400 meter relay which finished fourth at the event.
