BAY CITY, Mich. - For the fourth straight week, a Grand Valley State women's track and field athlete has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.
The awards, split up between track athlete of the week and field athlete of the week, have been held by a Laker for four straight weeks on either side. This week, senior Courtney Brewis was named the track athlete of the week with her performance at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Brewis had a spectacular outdoor debut over the weekend, running her first race of the season at the Mt. SAC Relays. She came away with one of the top times in the country in the 10,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 34:38.01, the second-best mark in Division II so far this year and only 1.01 seconds off an automatic qualifying mark.
Brewis joins Jessica Janecke (Apr. 2), Kalena Franklin (Apr. 9) and Kristen Hixson (Apr. 16) as Lakers to earn the GLIAC weekly honor.
Ashland's Jessica Bridenthal was named the GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week.
Brewis and the rest of the Lakers will head to Hillsdale this week to take part in the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Thursday (Apr. 24) through Saturday (Apr. 26).
