DES MOINES, Iowa/HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team completed its first portion of action in the Drake Relays and also started off its appearance in the Hillsdale Gina Relays, April 24, with the completion of the heptathlon and the 5000m run.

At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, seniors Pauline Chiariglione (Ajaccio, France-University of Nice) and Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) were two of sixteen athletes entered in the heptathlon that completed the seven-event slate. Chiariglione took seventh overall with 4,773 points while Wolanin's 4,554 points earned her 11th in the competition. Both seniors etched their names into EMU laurels, placing on the all-time top-10 list. Chiariglione's mark earns her the fifth spot on the list, while Wolanin claims the eighth-best finish in EMU history.

Both seniors started off the day with personal records in the long jump. Chiariglione paced her teammate with a leap of 5.34 meters/17 feet 6.25-inches, while Wolanin improved to 5.16 meters/16 feet 11.25-inches. The pair also saw success in the 800m run as they finished in the top-10 of the field. Once again, Chiariglione recorded the top mark for the Green and White, crossing the line at 2:21.43 for fifth in the event and Wolanin followed shortly behind in 2:22.77 for eighth.

Success continued for the Eagles back in Michigan, as all five harriers competing in the 5000m run recorded personal-best times. The pack was led by Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont) who won the event against a field of 111 athletes in 17:15.30, shaving nearly 30 seconds off her previous best mark from the Tennessee Relays, April 11. In fifth place was senior Kayla Pfund (Shelby Twp., Mich.-Lutheran North) who also sliced half a minute off her time to cross the line at 17:35.38. One more Eagle finished in the top-20 and under the 18-minute mark, as Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)) came in at 17:54.94.

The Eagles will continue competition at both relays tomorrow, April 25. Action in Hillsdale is slated to start at noon for the field events and 1 p.m. on the track. In Des Moines, the Green and White will start off the day with the 4x100m relay at 10:58 a.m. CT. Live results can be viewed at deltatiming.com.
