DES MOINES, Iowa -- The 4x200-meter relay squad ran the fifth-fastest time in school history on Friday to highlight day three of the prestigious Drake Relays.
Andrea Arnold, Naoimi Dulaney, Artia Gunn and Sarita Dotson combined to run a time of 1:37.62 seconds to take eighth overall in a difficult field. Arnold, Dotson, Alexis Hull and Chiara Allen also combined for the team's best 4x400-meter relay time of the season after finishing with a mark of 3:40.43. Dotson, a freshman, was handed the anchor leg in her first ever collegiate 4x400 race and did not disappoint. The Battle Creek, Mich., native ran a sub-55 second split for the first time in her career to help the squad, who just missed out on qualifying for the finals by 1.03 seconds.
"It was a huge breakthrough for Sarita," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "That was huge, she really stepped up for us and it should give her a lot of confidence going into her other races."
"Overall I was a little disappointed that we couldn't make the finals but I still felt it was a good competitive effort."
The 4x100-meter relay squad ran well but missed out on making the finals after a time of 46.22 seconds.
"I thought they ran pretty well but we are still working on our baton exchanges," Lycan added. "When you mix in two freshmen it takes some time to click. We are getting better but just not quite 100-percent yet."
The Broncos close out the Drake Relays on Saturday with the preliminaries of the shuttle hurdle relay at 9 a.m. EST and the triple jump at 11 a.m, The finals of the shuttle hurdle are slated for 1:30 p.m.
