NMU Track & Field Places Third at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team continued its indoor season on Saturday (Jan. 18) at the Karl Schlender Invitational on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Wildcats placed third out of seven teams on the afternoon, scoring 88 points. Host Whitewater won the meet with 200 points.
Junior Brittni Wirtz won the 60-meter run with a time of 7.84 seconds to set a facility record. Junior Ebony Young placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 11.11 meters. She added a second place finish in the long jump (5.23 meters) and was third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.79 seconds.
Junior Caitlin Keskey won the 600-meter run, with a time of 1:49.11. Junior Olivia Howard added a first place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:45.11 while junior Chelsea Farquhar was seventh (11:03.78), junior Emily Allen and sophomore Catherine Swiderski were 11th and 12th, respectively.
In the one-mile, Farquhar (5:31.81) and Swiderski (5:41.10) finished third and fourth, respectively while freshman Shannon Flynn placed 11th.
Wirtz finished fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.86 seconds, while Young was sixth (28.12). Sophomore Jaylee Brown finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.62.
The medley relay team of junior Larissa Halonen, redshirt freshman Abby Roche, Keskey and Brown placed second, with a time of 13:55.53.
NMU returns to action next weekend as the Wildcats travel to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Open on Saturday (Jan. 25).
