YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will be pitted against some of the best teams in the nation when it heads to Madison, Wisc. to compete in the 2013 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Friday, Nov. 15. The 2013 Mid-American Conference championship team currently sits at ninth in the regional rankings, with conference opponents Akron (10), Central Michigan (11), and Ohio (12) in close pursuit.
The top-ranked institution going into the meet is Indiana University, which is also the No. 11-ranked team in the country. However, the team to beat will undoubtedly be the host, the University of Wisconsin, as it has not lost a regional title in the past 11 seasons. After having a 14-year Big Ten Championship winning streak snapped by Indiana, the Badgers will look to retain their remaining streak in regional titles.
The NCAA Regional meets are used to establish competitors in the NCAA Championship race, which will be held in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 23. With high hopes as the Green and White enters the meet boasting four All-MAC selections, the Eagles will look to land as many individual spots as possible to the national championship.
The race is slated for a noon start and will be run on the Zimmer Championship Course.
