Two athletes from the state of Michigan will be representing the USA at the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships to be held July 10-14 in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Forty three 16 and 17-year-old athletes were selected from the World Youth Track & Field Trials at Southern Illinois University on the Edwardsville campus, June 25-26.

Ersula Farrow of Grosse Pointe South High School and Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc High School are the two athletes from Michigan who will be in the Ukraine this weekend for this prestigious competition.

Farrow, who will be a junior at Grosse Pointe South beginning this fall, has slowly become one of our state's top high school middle distance runners. Farrow finished in fourth place at the 2012 MHSAA LP Division One Track and Field Finals' 1600 Meter Run in a time of 4:51.96. She also finished second in the 800 Meters at that same meet in a time of 2:07.91, losing out only to teammate and top national runner Hannah Meier. Meier ran 2:06.35.

Farrow was also a vital member of South's winning relay teams in the 1600 Meter Relay and 3200 Meter Relay at the 2013 MHSAA Finals.

For Grand Blanc's Fisher, the trip to the IAAF World Youth Championships provides another chance to prove how much he's improved over the last two years.

Fisher also had an exceptional day at the 2013 MHSAA LP Division One Track and Field Finals, taking home the state title in the Boys' 3200 Meter Run with a time of 9:04.33 and narrowly missing out on another title in the 1600 Meters, ending up second in 4:15.769. T.J. Carey of Lake Orion H.S. was first in that race with a time of 4:15.763.
