YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will once again compete in-state, traveling to Allendale, Mich. (to face host Grand Valley State University, Central Michigan University and Hillsdale College in the Grand Valley State Quad, Jan. 26.) The meet begins with field events at 1 p.m. followed by running events at 2 p.m. in the Kelly Family Sports Building.
“We are looking forward to Saturday's quad as another opportunity for us to be involved in a team-scored competition as well as the opportunity for us to continue making progress,” noted EMU Head Coach John Goodridge.
EMU enters Saturday's quad ranked No. 8-nationally in the Track and Field News Magazine men's dual meet rankings. The GVSU Quad will be EMU's third scored meet of the indoor season and fourth meet overall. The Eagles won their previous two scored meets this season, the Eagle Holiday Meet against Central Michigan and Oakland, Dec. 7, and the EMU Triangular against Akron and Buffalo, Jan. 11.
Be on the lookout for school records being shattered Saturday as two new Eastern Michigan records have been set in the previous scored meets this season .
At the Eagle Holiday Meet, Donald Scott leapt 51-feet and 1.50-inches in the triple jump for a new EMU record, a jump that currently ranks sixth nationally. Scott has won the triple jump at each meet this season and will look to keep his perfect streak going at GVSU.
Max Babits made EMU history with a 17-feet and 4.25-inches mark in the pole vault at the EMU Triangular. The junior's record-breaking vault ranks at No. 11 in the nation. Through three competitions, Babits has two victories along with a runner-up finish.
