MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University Director of Track and Field Willie Randolph has announced the promotion of Matt Kaczor from assistant coach to associate head coach.
"Coach Kaczor has been a part the proud track and field tradition here at Central Michigan for his entire career–first as a student-athlete and now as a coach," Randolph said of Kaczor. "It's rare that you find people who have a personal commitment to a university, where you have the desire to win because it has been engrained in you and you have a great sense of pride in the tradition."
"The intangible qualities that Matt possesses as a coach and teacher are invaluable to the success of our program, and this promotion reflects those attributes," said Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "He is a valued member of not only the track and field and cross country staff but the department and community as well."
Kaczor has spent five seasons developing the distance and middle distance runners for the Chippewas track and field/cross country program.
In his time with the program, Kaczor has coached seven individual MAC champions, 27 All-MAC performers, five outdoor regional/prelims qualifiers, two NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifiers and 2008 All-American 800m runner Abraham Mach.
Kaczor competed for the Chippewas in both track and cross country from 2001-04, and was part of three MAC cross country championship teams-2002, 2003 and 2004-and was a member of the 2003 outdoor track team that captured the program's first MAC title. He served as captain of the cross country squad in 2004.
After graduating from CMU with a degree in secondary education and history in May 2005, Kaczor began his coaching career at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., serving as an assistant coach for OU's cross country and track and field teams. He coached two all-conference performers in the 3000m steeplechase while at Oakland.
"I am very honored that the administration and Coach Randolph felt that highly to promote me to the associate head coach of cross country and track and field," Kaczor said.
Kaczor and his wife, Jill, are the parents of a daughter, Clara Dee, and a son, Ryan Matthew. The Freeland, Mich., native is a United States Track and Field Level I certified coach.
