Detroit Mercy - Koglin Becomes 12th Titan to Throw Over 50 Feet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (1/19/2013) -- Junior Allyson Koglin became the 12th Titan to throw over 50 feet in the weight throw as the junior on the University of Detroit Mercy women's indoor track and field team competed in the Red Simmons Invitational in Ann Arbor on Saturday in a meet hosted by the University of Michigan.
Koglin posted her first career throw beyond 50 feet with a launch of 50-2.50/15.30 and became just the 12th Titan to achieve the feat as she finished seventh.
Koglin also placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 10.62m/34-10.25. Lauren Berlin was fourth in the same event at 11.36m/37-3.25 while Stephanie Blanchard was sixth at 11.13m/36-6.25
Kayla Zauner was third in the triple jump at 10.56m/34-7.75.
In the women's mile, Katrina Oberski had a time of 5:18.75 and Sarah Martinez 5:24.25 setting a new personal best.
In the 60-meter race, Nicole Meisner had the fastest Titan preliminary time at 7.99 while Jessica Doherty had a PR time of 8.08. In the finals, Meisner was seventh at 7.95.
In the 600-meter race, Jasmine Greene and Shannon Marchant matched up with 2012 US Olympian Geena Gall. Marchant would win the second heat at 1:41.44 while Greene came in at 1:42.06 in heat one with Gall. Gall ran in 1:29.89 to top the field while Marchant's time was good for fourth place while Greene was fifth.
The 60-meter hurdle preliminaries saw Brandee Hart qualify with a time of 9.22 before she finished fifth in the finals clocking in at 9.07.
In the 4x400-meter relay, UDM came in seventh with an overall time of 4:06.50 from Hart (1:03.1), Marchant (59.9), Meisner (1:03.6) and Greene (59.8).
Detroit will prepare for its next meet this Saturday as UDM will participate in the IPFW Quadrangular in Fort Wayne, Indiana with a start time scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
