SVSU Lady Cardinals Finish 12th at NCAAs; Hill, Short Earn All-American Honors

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team finished in 12th place out of 32 teams at the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Championships hosted by Missouri Southern State University today (Nov. 17).



The Lady Cardinals finished with 346 points and an average time of 21:57.4 amongst their top-5 runners as they competed in the NCAA National Championships meet for the second consecutive year. This also marks the second time in school history the women's program has qualified for the national meet.



Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich.) led the Cardinals at the national meet as she crossed the line with a mark of 21:05.3 in 19th position. With her finish, Hill earned All-American honors in the final cross country race of her SVSU career.



Sophomore Emily Short (Tawas, Mich. / Tawas Area HS) followed close behind Hill in 20th position as the Cardinals used pack running techniques to excel in the race. Short also garnered All-American recognition as she finished with a time of 21:06 in 17th place overall out of 249 participants.



Freshman Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich.) finished third on the team for SVSU as she completed the course in 21:51.2 in 68th place at her first national meet.



Teha Ames (Shepherd, Mich.) ran well for SVSU as she recorded a time of 22:31 and ended up in 117th place at the MSSU Cross Country Course.



The SVSU top-5 was rounded out by Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich.) who posted a mark of 23:13.5 good for 187th position overall.



Saginaw Valley's lineup was completed by Tori Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / West HS) and Chantelle Fondren (Chesaning, Mich.) who finished with times of 23:21.1 (194th) and 25:18.7 (244th), respectively.



Last year, the Cardinals placed 13th out of 24 teams in their first-ever appearance at the national meet in Spokane.
