Oakland U - Hutton, Cassady Pace Oakland at NCAA Great Lakes Regionals

MADISON, Wis. - Brittni Hutton finished 63rd with a time of 21:44 in the 6K race and Pat Cassady finished 95th with a time of 33:12 in the men's 10K to lead the Oakland men's and women's cross country teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon. The women finished 22nd out of 32 teams and the men finished 23rd out of 30 teams.
"Competing at regionals is always an eye opening experience and today was no exception," said head coach Paul Rice. "I thought our athletes competed well and fought the whole race. We had a nice season and these athletes worked very hard this fall."
On the men's side Wisconsin won by placing four runners in the top 15 including the individual winner Mohammed Ahmed who finished with a time of 30:37 to win their 11th consecutive regional championship. For the women, Michigan claimed the team title with four runners in the top 10, while Ohio University's Julie Accurso won the individual title with a time of 20:07.
Nathan Ziolko earned a top-100 finish, just one spot behind Cassady as he finished 96th overall with a time of 33:13 and George O'Connor finished 123rd with a time of 33:41. Lia Jones finished behind Hutton in 122nd place with a time of 22:34, while Jami Rodes finished 156th with a time of 23:06.
"It's time to get a little rest and turn our focus to being prepared for track season while building on what we accomplished this fall," added Rice.
This is the final race for both the men's and women's cross country teams.
