DETROIT (8/21/2012) -- Summer vacation is quickly coming to an end and with men's and women's soccer already on campus, the Titan cross country teams are the next in line to move back into the dorms and get ready for the 2012 campaign.
Both the men and women returned on Sunday and after going through physicals on move-in day and compliance meetings on Monday, the Titans were ready for the annual time trial on Tuesday morning. The famed time trial took place at nearby Palmer Park with the women running 2.25 miles and the men putting in a 4-miler.
Sophomore Colin Creagh and senior Edwin Gay led the pack for the men with Creagh turning in a time of 20:31 and Gay clocking a 20:39. A three-way tie for first was the story on the women's trial as seniors Sarah Martinez and Katrina Oberski and sophomore Zeinab Baydoun put in a 13:41 run on the Palmer loop.
Some other courses that the Titans will train on in the next week include trips to the Brighton Recreation Area, Belle Isle, and Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe.
The Titans will have about 11 days of training before their first event at the Golden Grizzly Open on Aug. 31. Right after that, UDM will host the 26th Annual Running Fit - Detroit Titan Invitational at Cass-Benton Park in Northville on Sept. 8.
