2012 MHSAA Upper Peninsula Track and Field Finals Recap

At the 2012 MHSAA Upper Peninsula Track and Field Championship at Kingsford High School, the Marquette Girl’s team took home the first place team trophy with 106 points, narrowly defeating Negaunee with 99 points.

Adeline Grier-Welch of Houghton broke the U.P. Division 2 Finals Meet record in the Long Jump with a mark of 17-3.5. In the 100 Meter Dash, Calumet’s Chelsea Jacques set a new Finals Meet record with a time of 12.55. Marquette tallied four first place finishes in the girl's competition including the 3,200 and 1,600 Meter Relays, Shayla Huebner in the 400 Meter Dash and Jessica Fluette in the 800 Meter Run.

St. Ignace won the Girl's Division Two title with 142 points and accounted for five first place finishes -- Sarah Cullip in the Pole Vault, 1,600, and 3,200 Meter Run, the 400 Meter Relay consisting of Margo Brown, Rebecca Brown, Morgan Lavake and Rachel Hetherington and also Alexa Thibault in the 300 Meter Low Hurdles.

Hunter Perry of Rudyard set a New U.P. Division 2 Finals Girl's Meet record in the Discus with a throw of 122-10.25. Perry also took second in the Shot Put behind her teammate, Savannah Dugan. Dani Gagne of Norway set a U.P Division 2 Finals Meet Girl's record in the 200 Meter Dash.

Brimley took home the Division Three trophy scoring 78 points. Olivia Soumis of Ontonagon set a new Division Three Finals Meet record in the Long Jump with her mark of 16-7.5. Chassell’s Jamie Dompier set a new U.P. Division 2 Finals Girl's Meet Record in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 26.36

Marquette also won the Boy’s competition for Division One. Zach Taggart of Marquette won the 110 Meter High Hurdles, was fourth in the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles and anchored Marquette’s winning 1,600 Meter Relay team.

Kenner Broullire of Manistique set a new U.P. Division One Finals Boy's Meet record in the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles as he won the event.

The St. Ignace Boy’s team also won the Division Two team title. Parker Simmons won the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes as well as anchoring the 400 Meter Relay. In the High Jump, James Sutton of Newberry set the U.P. Division Two Finals Meet Record with his jump of 6-3.5.

Pickford won the Division Three team title with a score of 89 points. Jordan Lavigne recorded two second place finishes for Pickford in the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes and a first place finish in the Long Jump. Jarred Lavigne was fourth in the 110 Meter High Hurdles and 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles. Jordan and Jarred also contributed to a first place finish in the 800 Meter Relay. The 1,600 Meter Relay team from Crystal Falls Forest Park set a new U.P. Division Three Finals Meet record with a time of 3:36.32.
