Oakland Completes Action at Toledo Collegiate Challenge

TOLEDO, Ohio - Brittni Hutton earned two top-four finishes including a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run and Steven Marcinkowski finished third in the 5,000-meter run as the Oakland men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge hosted by the University of Toledo at Fetterman Outdoor Track and Field Facility on Saturday.
"Despite the cold temperatures, we had some great performances today," said head coach Paul Rice. "I think as a coaching staff we couldn't be more pleased with what we saw in our first meet of the season. However, we were able to identify some things we need to continue to work on this week."
The women finished in eighth place with 40 points as Toledo won with 192 total points. The men finished with 21.5 points for an eighth-place finish with Central Michigan finishing in first place with 161 points.
Hutton placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:23.38 as teammates Jami Rodes finished fourth and Hannah Scherer finished eighth. Hutton also earned a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:08.80.
Micah Jones earned three top-six finishes in the triple jump, high jump and long jump as Meaghan Ogonowski finished eighth in the long jump as well. Serena San Cartier finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82.
Marcinkowski finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:54.84 while Kenny Wall finished seventh with a time of 15:09.36. Niklas Rippon earned a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time 15.57 and Jake Magier finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:48.83. Ryan Balzer finished seventh in the javelin throw with a mark of 154 feet 6.75 inches.
The Golden Grizzlies will be in action next weekend as they take on Detroit in a dual meet on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.
